The early access program was developed in conjunction with logistics enterprise, UPS, and is intended to strengthen 3D printing in the industrial manufacturing sector.

SLM Solutions is to become a partner of enterprise application software company, SAP, utilising its early access program.

The program, made available to new customers, intends to provide software applications to discrete manufacturers, industrial 3D printing companies and providers of services and materials. It was developed in conjunction with logistics enterprise, UPS, and is intended to strengthen 3D printing in the industrial manufacturing sector.

SAP announced the opening of the early access program in January 2017. It aims to make 3D printing an integral part of the digital manufacturing landscape.

Lubeck-based SLM will use the beta version of the application SAP Distributed Manufacturing. In turn, SAP will receive feedback.

“When SAP offered us the cooperation, we accepted immediately,” said Henner Schoneborn, member of the board of SLM Solutions Group AG. “We are happy to support the further development of the software SAP Distributed Warehouse. SAP has the same goals as SLM Solutions: the further strengthening of 3D printing in industrial manufacturing.”

Through the early access program SAP has expressed its intent to make 3D printing an integral part of the digital manufacturing landscape. The software expert is committed to providing its partners with standard and scalable business processes for digitising, approving, certifying and manufacturing digital parts. By aligning itself with SAP and its early access program, SLM believe it will be able to maximise its projected growth in the coming years.

“Industrial cooperations are an important part of the enterprise strategies of SLM Solutions Group AG,” said Uwe Bogerhausen, SLM Solutions CFO. “Optimisation of the interfaces and the software deployed in the industrial manufacturing process is highly advantageous for the customers because they can now integrate SLM systems smoothly into their manufacturing processes and thus produce complex parts and components of highest quality.

“This further enhances SLM Solutions’ development into a comprehensive solutions provider for additive manufacturing and will allow SLM Solutions to grow faster than the market.”

SAP is working with dozens of companies as part of the early access program, offering them the ability to explore opportunities to drive innovation by assessing product design, optimising manufacturing processes and creating new business models. Here companies can perfect their inventory for slow-moving parts while meeting time-sensitive customer needs, make the most of opportunities to produce unique custom goods, and enhance production consistency.
