Scitek Consultants Selects MSC Apex for Jet Engine Modeling
NEWPORT BEACH, CA, USA, Jun 13, 2018 – MSC Software Corporation, a global leader in helping product manufacturers advance their engineering methods with simulation software and services, announced that Scitek Consultants Ltd. has selected MSC Apex for use in its work performing Whole Engine Modeling (WEM) with a global manufacturer of jet aircraft engines.
Like most jet engine manufacturers, Scitek’s client uses MSC software tools including Nastran and Patran to optimize the design of the engine before proceeding to physical prototypes and to identify and solve issues identified during physical testing. “We determined that the best way we could stay on the same page with our client was to use the same MSC software tools that they were already successfully using, but with the addition of MSC Apex Modeler,” said Marios Christodoulou, Founder, and Director of Scitek Consultants.
“After we began using the MSC Apex Modeler, we discovered that it significantly reduces the time required to create and update the WEM,” Christodoulou said. Scitek consultants use the WEM developed with the MSC Apex Modeler to address issues such as stress and deflection on the pylon and engine casing generated by gyroscopic and gravitational loading experienced during a typical flight cycle. Scitek consultants work closely with its client to ensure that deflections are maintained within acceptable limits to ensure that engine performance is maintained at all times.
MSC Apex Modeler direct modeling tools enable users to interactively create and edit geometry, shortening the time required to create and edit models and improve their precision. The application also interactively evaluates model completeness and validity to help ensure accurate analysis results. Analysis results are automatically updated with geometry changes, substantially reducing simulation time.
“Since we have been using MSC Apex Modeler, we are also able to collaborate more closely with our clients, such as by sharing models and best practices,” Christodoulou concluded. “Furthermore, while we primarily purchased the modeling software to assist this particular client, our rapidly growing expertise in using the tool provides the opportunity to gain new business from the majority of jet engine manufacturers who also use MSC Software.”
