MapleSim, HeatPathView Integration Creates 1D CAE Models from 3D Analysis Data
WATERLOO, ON, Canada, Jun 13, 2018 – Maplesoft announced a connection between MapleSim, the advanced system-level modeling tool, and HeatPathView, an important component of HeatDesigner, scSTREAM , and other thermal fluid simulation software products from Software Cradle. This connection enables engineers to gain greater insight into the thermal effects of their design at the system level, so they can understand the effect of heat transfer on their entire product, and refine their design to improve performance and avoid overheating.
MapleSim is a natural environment for modeling multidomain systems that support the rapid creation and testing of initial concepts. With MapleSim, engineers can try out more ideas in less time, identify and prevent unexpected interactions between different domains, and generate computationally efficient models. The MapleSim Heat Transfer Library is a MapleSim add-on that provides a comprehensive view into the heat transfer effects present in a model, enabling engineers to refine their design to improve performance and avoid overheating. The latest version of this library provides connectivity with HeatPathView, a tool that displays the heat path and amount of heat transfer throughout a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model, so engineers can identify heat path bottlenecks easily. With the new connectivity between products, engineers can now combine the understanding they get from their 3-D CFD models with the system-level insight, analysis, and optimization options provided by 1D system-level models.
HeatPathView generates heat path data as well as thermal property values from its 3D CFD analysis. MapleSim, together with the MapleSim Heat Transfer Library, reads this data indirectly and automatically generates a 1D model from the data. Unlike traditional model reduction techniques, which provide only a final result, the model generated by MapleSim is still parameterized. Engineers can incorporate the new model as part of a multidomain model of a larger system, perform parametric studies, and run fast simulations. They can study the heat transfer effects at the product and system level, not just the part level, identify situations where the heat from an individual part will have an adverse effect on other components, and optimize their design more effectively to avoid product overheating.
