Interview with Mr.Bryan Huang ZWSOFT Overseas Channel Manager at ZWSOFT and Mr. Sean Yao Deputy Sales Director ZWSOFT
ZWSOFT authorized reseller for ZW3D – ZWIndia recently conducted their ZW3D 2019 launch event in Pune, India. Over 125 delegates attended the event. This event served as a platform for design professionals to understand ZWSOFT product portfolio.
I had an opportunity to meet Mr. Bryan Huang, Overseas Channel Manager at ZWSOFT and Mr. Sean Yao, Deputy Sales Director ZWSOFT along the sidelines of the event. Here are some excerpts from the interview.
Tell me about your company (ZWSOFT)?
Mr.Bryan Huang: -Founded in 1998, ZWSOFT is a world-renowned CAD/CAM solution provider for manufacturing and AEC sectors. With over 20 years of experience, we have our flagship products ZWCAD and ZW3D. Over 900,000 clients across 90 countries have proved our products and services.
ZWSOFT has an international network of highly skilled partners, distributors, and resellers. Headquartered in Guangzhou, China, ZWSOFT and its operating subsidiaries currently employ more than 600+ staff worldwide with branch offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Vietnam and Florida, USA.
The theme for ZWorld this year was ‘Move to All-in-one CAx’ can you elaborate more about the vision of ZWSOFT?
Mr. Sean Yao: – I think the demand from our users is the driving force for us to think beyond 2D and 3D CAD. As the product development is getting more complex, ZWCAD and ZW3D customers are looking for the complete, easy to use and collaborative solution that houses different software applications like 2D, 3D CAD, CAM, simulation and BIM/PLM, so that team members can finish their tasks in one single software environment. Moving to CAx means we will have our solution for every task in product development cycle. We hope to provide different solutions covering 2D CAD, 3D CAD/CAM, CAE, BIM, PLM, etc. to our users, and the data exchange between them will be efficient, seamless and lossless. For us “all-in-one” means we will integrate all tools as one to work smoothly with each other by sharing the same kernel, geometry, database, display engine and solver, and enabling their data to flow seamlessly.
We want to fulfill all the needs of our clients when it comes to developing better products. With ‘All-in-one CAx’ solution we want to push the technological boundaries with innovative offerings that helps manufacturers build better products, optimize processes, and outperform their competitors.
How do you see towards ZW3D when compared to other 3D CAD software available in the market?
Mr.Bryan Huang-:-First of all, ZW3D is a ‘budget-friendly tool’ that has no mandatory annual updates, and comes with a non-expiring license. This latest ZW3D 2019 release has packed numerous improvements based on insights and feedback from global customers. We continue to drive ZW3D forward in terms of usability, quality, productivity and affordable price. We come up with productive enhancements for the fast-changing world of product design and manufacturing.
ZW3D was previously known as VXCAD/CAM. In 2010 ZWSOFT purchased the technology and R&D team behind VXCAD/CAM from VX Corporation USA. ZW3D CAD/CAM is a unique tool having its own kernel. We continued using the same kernel for the development of ZW3D. Further Kernel development for ZW3D is still done by a core development team based in Melbourne, FL.
With the interface in MS office style, ZW3D shortens users’ learning curve of software implementation. The user interface consists of a Quick Access Toolbar and ribbon across the top of the screen and a status bar along the bottom. ZW3D also includes sheet metal capabilities, including advance unfold and weldment design. Its assembly modeling tools allow for both top-down and bottom-up designs. You can edit assemblies and components and manage associated models, and the program’s verification tools help ensure the manufacturability of your designs.
ZW3D includes specialized tools for dealing with detailed mold designs, including tools for quickly adding core-cavity parting lines and multi-cavity designs. It also comes with a library of mold base components and standard parts.
Mr. Sean Yao: – One of the things that sets ZW3D apart from most of its competitors in 3D space is the fact that it integrates both CAD and CAM tools in a single package. The CAM program supports everything from 2-axis milling to 4-5 axis simultaneous machining.
How is ZW3D market in China? And how you see India as the market for ZW3D?
Mr. Sean Yao: – We keep an eye on what our users currently need and what they might need in the future. The company stands behind its belief in R&D, with more than 20 percent of the revenue is used for R&D. ZWSOFT products (ZWCAD, ZW3D, CADbro) have been very successful over the last 20 years not just in China but worldwide. China is a major market for us, and we have 30% year-over-year growth globally.
Clearly, we can see a lot of opportunities to develop new business models and drive the growth of the ZW3D in India like we did it for ZWCAD. India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. When India is growing at 7%, we will certainly be on a double-digit growth trend for the next 5 years. The SME sector in India is growing faster so like ZWCAD we want to focus more on SMEs in India. Besides the automotive industry, construction, infrastructure, Oil & Gas, consumer goods and process industry are the areas for diversification. Along with our partners in India, we see the highest potential for growth in the coming years.
What are the benefits of perpetual licensing model adopted by ZWSOFT?
Mr. Sean Yao: Subscription licensing isn’t ideal for every business model and in some cases won’t deliver the cost-savings that companies are looking for. That’s why we are sticking with the perpetual licensing model that works best for our customers. I feel subscription model limits companies in that they no longer truly own their software. The dependency on another company for cloud services increases. It is one of many reasons that corporations have resisted moving their operations to the cloud.
Mr.Bryan Huang:- The clients will have to pay subscription fees to ensure that their companies get full access to the software they need to operate – the catch is that access to this software ends as soon as the company quits paying their subscription fee. In some cases, this means clients are given read-only access to their old files, while in other cases, this data disappears completely. That’s why we are sticking with the perpetual licensing model that works best for ZWSOFT customers. Finally, you can save money in the long run and upgrade when they want with a buy-once license of ZW3D and ZWCAD.
Going forward, what will be the company’s strategy and roadmap for India?
Mr.Bryan Huang: – We have significant plans in India in the future for ZWSOFT. We hope India will turn into another growth engine like China for ZWCAD, ZW3D. We have a positive roadmap for expanding our presence in India and working towards it. We along with our partners in India aim to make India among the biggest markets for ZWCAD and ZW3D.
