AVEVA India Promotes Safe Driving in Hyderabad

Corporate Responsibility programme supports government Initiative to address India’s rise in road traffic accidents

Hyderabad, India - 13 July 2015: AVEVA announced today that it is supporting an Indian government initiative to improve Road Safety Awareness and introduced a campaign as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. Staff at AVEVA’s office in Hyderabad are encouraging safe driving in the city by educating motorists about the dangers of traffic on the road and rewarding those that followed the law.

‘Road safety is a huge issue in India’, said Malathi Rai, Head of HR, AVEVA India. ‘India has grown to be one of the largest economies in the world over recent years and its economic surge has resulted in a significant increase in the number of vehicles on its roads. This has led to traffic congestion and an increase in the number of road traffic accidents, which is causing injuries and fatalities. Most accidents occur because drivers are ignorant of traffic regulations and have never been formally trained. We have adopted this CSR activity to support the government’s initiative to educate people on the consequence of not following the laws of the road’.

Working with local traffic officials, AVEVA staff stood at busy junctions with safety placards, speaking with drivers when safe to do so and awarding those that followed the rules with roses and chocolate. A similar initiative also took place in Mumbai.

AVEVA also invited 200 auto rickshaw drivers to its office. With support from the Traffic Department and the auto rickshaw drivers’ union, the attendees were told about the importance of safe driving habits. The rickshaw drivers thanked AVEVA for raising the issue and were presented with a pin badge with the slogan, “Your Safety is My Concern”.

India is a hugely important country to AVEVA and has greatly extended its presence in both Hyderabad and Mumbai, with investment in research and development (R&D), as well as sales and sales support. At AVEVA’s R&D centre it focuses on the development of pioneering, innovative software technologies including the world’s most advanced 3D plant design software, AVEVA Everything3D. Today we are applying the latest Cloud and Tablet technologies to the practical needs of the process plant, power and marine industries.
