ARES Commander has a different way of handling the command sequence in Command Window.

Let us know more about command window prompts. Command prompts are by default available in Command window at bottom part of graphical area.

Commands are the instructions that tell the program what to do.

You can initiate the command in many ways:

  • Make a selection on a “Ribbon”
  • From “Toolbar”
  • From “Menu”
  • Enter a command in the “Command window”.

When you decide to use command window then below sequence will help you to understand in better way to work on command prompt

We will take example of POLYLINE command. This command has two aliases – “Pline” and “Pl”. Now if you use “pl” as alias at command prompt, then it will return as

c2

When you type Alias then in first line it will display the complete command name in capital letters.

In this case, the default is to specify the start point. You can either enter X,Y coordinate values or click a point in the drawing area.

Options: All options for that command will appear in blue color with one letter capital and underlined.

You can choose a different option, you have to type the option. Use the keyboard; specify the option by entering the capitalized, underlined letter. You can enter uppercase or lowercase letters. For example, to choose the “Arc” option, type “a” and press Enter.

Enter to exit: Pressing simply “Enter” will exit from the command.

Default: The default value (including the current value) is displayed after the command name in orange color. This will appear only when command has default value, For this we will take example of POLYGON command:

c4

In this case, you can press Enter to retain the current setting (4). If you want to change the value, type another value and press Enter.

You can specify the font, size and command line text.

Options -System Options – Display – Command window text:

Reason I like this feature:

-: All options of command are clearly separated by comma in blue color. Shortcut for sub options are clearly displayed in CAPITAL LETTERS and underlined. Default value appears in separate line in orange color.

Reason I think it can improve the experience of the users:

-: This feature will definitively increase your productivity, because

  • One default option appear in command
  • All sub options will appear separated by comma
  • Using shortcut key will execute that sub option
  • Default value appears in one separate line

I am sure you will use this effectively now. Feel free to post your experience and queries.
